Banana Smoothie Recipes

I love myself a banana smoothie. Bananas make the ultimate smoothies. They are hands down the best type of blender drink- in my mind. I have found them to be a healthy way to make thick, rich milkshake smoothies.

Using bananas in your smoothies: You can use fresh or frozen bananas for your smoothies.

Fresh bananas make creamy, milk like textures for your smoothies recipes.

When you use frozen bananas (my personal favorite) it makes smoothies cool, creamy and malt like. Adding some vanilla makes it really taste milky and is so heavenly.

I have a large collection of banana smoothies recipes because I make them almost every day. Night time snacks for me and my husband are often times the banana-coconut recipe below. Even if you don’t like bananas, give a few of these a try, and freeze them as it makes them less banana tasting.

Tips for freezing bananas: Years ago I realized that one long frozen banana doesn’t work well in the blender. When the fresh bananas get ripe, peel them and cut or break them into 3 large chunks. Loosely roll them into wax paper and place in the freezer. Always keep these on hand for a quick smoothie anytime.

The Vitamix can handle frozen bananas (and any frozen fruit) very well. Banana smoothies don’t keep very well in the fridge. Try to make only what you’ll drink immediately.

The Straight Banana Smoothie

When we first got our Vitamix my husband and I made this. I think because it was all we had in the house. Thank goodness we did! It’s sort of become a staple as the snack smoothie. Malt-like and delicious, I find the bananas fade to the background and I feel like I’m eating something sinful…but I’m not.

This recipe should be enough for two people.
2 frozen bananas
¼ cup of honey or agave nectar
½ cup of almond milk
1 teaspoon of honey
1 tablespoon of vanilla

Place all the ingredients in your blender and process on high until smooth. If using a Vitamix, start off low, and then use the high speed, variable 10.

Nana Blue

2 frozen bananas
1 cup of blueberries
A little coconut or almond milk to help blend

Place ingredients in your blender and process on high until smooth. You might want to let this go a little longer to break through the skin of the blueberries.

Date Banana

2 bananas
½ cup of frozen mango
3-4 dates (pitted)
1/2 cup of water or orange juice

Place all ingredients in your blender and process on high until smooth.

Papaya Banana

½ payapa
1 banana (frozen is better)
2 tablespoons of honey

Place all ingredients in your blender and process on high until smooth.

Banana Coconut

1 & ½ frozen bananas
½ cup of coconut milk
1-2 tablespoons of honey or agave nectar
1 teaspoon of coconut oil
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract

Place all ingredients in blender and process on high until smooth.

Strawberry Banana Smoothie

1 cup of strawberries
1 frozen banana
1 pear
½ cup of water or coconut milk to process

Place all ingredients in your blender and process on high until smooth. Yum!

Blackberry Banana

2 cups of blackberries
1 apple
1 banana

Juice the apple and blackberries in your juicer. Place the juice in your blender with the banana. Blend until smooth.

Peachy Banana

2 peaches (pitted)
1 banana
1 handful of raspberries
1/3 cup of water or almond milk

Place all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth.

Coco Pineapple Nana

2 bananas
2- 1 inch rounds of pineapple (cored)
1/3 cup of coconut milk

Place all ingredients in blender and process on high until smooth.

Maple Banana

1 banana
1 cup of nut milk
4 tablespoons of maple syrup
1 tsp of lemon juice

Place ingredients in the blender and process until smooth. Serve immediately. Great for breakfast!
