You’ve probably heard about some big stars (like Beyonce Knowles) using this diet to shed a pound, cleanse their bodies and get a little glow….

This program is all based on the premise of cleansing your system through a detox using lemon juice and a few other ingredients. And yes, it really works.

What is the Master Cleanse?

Also called the lemonade diet cleanse, it is a body detoxing program that was created by naturopath Stanley Borroughs.

He believed that toxicity is at the root of all illnesses and created this program to eliminate toxins in his clients so that they could begin healing.

He realized that virtually all people had undigested and caked up waste in their body, which created a host of illnesses. He discovered that cleansing was the answer, and created this diet to help people cleanse healthfully.

It literally eliminates pounds of waste in a matter of days. It aids in weight loss and cleans virtually every organ in your body, freeing your systems up to work effectively and efficiently. It’s a great way to start living well, and to clear up health issues.

It’s a liquid based detox & cleanse. The special lemonade recipe made with lemon, maple syrup and cayenne pepper provide your body with nutrition to aid in cleansing and toxicity elimination. It has no side effects except for possibly a little weight loss, which also lends to the popularity of this cleanse.

There are three phases to the diet

  • Getting started by easing into the diet
  • The Lemonade diet
  • Breaking the cleanse by easing out correctly

Some people rather just jump into the lemonade diet portion and that can be okay too, if you already eat a pretty good vegetarian based diet. Do what suits you best. Breaking the diet any other way then recommended by Stanley Borroughs in his book “the master cleanser” is not a good idea. It’s best to follow his instructions for a safe and effective cleanse.

Why is this lemonade diet good for me?

This liquid diet will give the digestive system a rest. It allows the body to begin a cleansing process to eliminate toxins that have built up in the body from stress, improper diet, and lack of exercise.

Many people lose on average of 2 pounds per day. And even if you don’t lose weight, your body will detoxify.

The cleanse duration is up to the person, but typically it was made to last for approximately 10-14 days. The program consists of juice fasting with a recipe made up of fresh lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and filtered water. Many celebrities have made this cleanse famous for good reason. It works and is completely safe, however, it is not for everyone. I happen to think a juice fast is better, but some people really like this idea and prefer it.
