Juicing Celery

by Jane

Q:Why does celery seem to stop up my champion juicer, and is there any way to avoid this? It seems like I don't juice much before it gets full of celery shreds.

A:
The celery ribs do clog up the juicer pulp much quicker then any other produce. This is normal, its nothing you are doing wrong. I find that alternating other produce you are jucing seems to work the best, and ensures you can get yourself a few glasses before you have to clean it out. It's worth is though, isn't it?

I have had a Champion Juicer for 40 years. Yes, the same one. ;-) I cut the celery stalk into 2 to 3 inch long pieces before putting them into the chute. I haven't had celery string problems since I started doing this.

If you take a peeler and "skin" the outside of the stalk before you juice it, it removes most of the stringlike fibre from the celery
