Fruits, Vegetables and Herbs Used For Water Retention - Edema
Water retention can be a symptom of serious conditions such as high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney disease or liver disease. Or it may be the result of medications, poor circulation, allergies, anemia oand protein deficiency.
The most commom cases are far less serious...edema can be due to not drinking enough water, too much salt intake, PMS or menopause.
So if you ate too much salt last night and need to fit in the little black dress very soon...have no fear, celery will be your savior.
Fruits and vegetables to juice:
Blueberries, Cantaloupe, Grapes, Strawberries, Watermelon, Asparagus, Beets, Broccoli, Cabbage, Carrots, *Celery*, Corn, Cucumber, Leafy Greens, Squash, Watercress
Herbal suggestions:
*Celery Seed*, Burdock, Dandelion, Garlic, Parsley, Nettle
I have found that juicing celery and or having celery seed extract (taken in juice) on hand works the best, hands down. I've even had people tell me stories of thier wedding rings fitting again after juicing or taking the extract for at least a week.
A great recipe...
Plain celery juice (add an apple for taste) works pretty well:
3 apples
3 stalks of celery
Juice together and drink. Alernate the celery and apples so that your juicer does not clog.
It's safe, of course, to have this a few times a day if you are in a hurry to get rid of water retention. If you don't have celery, try substituting cucumbers.
When you want a recipe that's a bit different....
- 1 stalk of broccoli
- half a cucumber
- half a red bell pepper
- 2 sprigs of parsley
Add a small dropperful of celery seed herbal tincture to this juice for the best results.
To this day, I remember my mom juicing celery juice for about a week before my wedding so that she looked slimmer in her dress! It worked!
Juicing leafy greens is also very beneficial for water retention
